Right now in the makers lab, we have Zooming awesome mermaid Mimi, who is going to show us how to make fishes for our zoomtastic Sea Party!

Zippedy Brilliant, the Boffins are running around the lab, with their fishes, they say they have created an labaqaurium, as long as they mop up the water…

Lord Wellington was a British navy hero who famously defeated French emperor Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, but did you know that when Wellington heard that Napoleon had been banished, he was so overjoyed he leapt to his feet and did a flamenco dance!

The Mary Celeste was a merchant ship which was found completely deserted and adrift in the Atlantic Ocean in 1872. There was still plenty of food on the ship and no sign of any attack or struggle. The lifeboat had gone and the crew were never seen again!

The speed that a ship is travelling at is measured in knots. One knot is equal to one nautical mile per hour. The term ‘knot’ dates back to hundreds of years ago, when sailors would measure their speed using a actual piece of rope with knots tied in it, called a ‘common log’.

Well my hearties, our seas are re-stocked and the magical underwater world is zippingly busy, and we are all feeling p’p’p’p’peckish which is luck as here comes that not so scurvy Brandon D.

Brandon has made for us his Oatie Sailor Biscuits, which is better than an old dry ship’s cracker and a smelly sock!

Sailors’ Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients

50g caster sugar
50g margarine
One egg
Dollop of honey
80g porridge oats
50g flour (any kind)
Tsp baking powder
Tsp cinnamon powder
Handful of dried cranberries, or chocolate chips, or raisins

Method

  1. Add the sugar and margarine into a large mixing bowl. Mix together with a spoon.
  2. When combined, add egg and honey. Mix all.
  3. Mix flour and oats in with the mixture, along with the baking power and cinnamon.
  4. Mix gently, and add the dried cranberries (or whatever you chose). You’ll end up with a thick paste.
  5. Scoop spoonfuls of the mixture onto a baking tray, make sure they’re well spread out.
  6. Put tray in oven and bake at 180 degrees C for 10-15 mins, until golden brown. Allow to cool, and enjoy!

Acorn Planting!

Here’s Lizzie to show us how to plant an acorn so it can grow up into a huuuuge oak tree!

How do oceans say hello to each other?

They wave.

Why are pirates pirates?

Because they arrrrrrrre.

A shark goes up to another shark in the ocean and throws a very poorly-looking octopus to him. The second shark says “Hey, what’s this for?” and the first shark says…

“It’s the sick squid I owe you!”

What next do we have from the deep blue waters, its Jim ‘Lad’ Hawkins, from the Admiral Benbow Inn. His mum owns the Inn and Jim is in lockdown with his family, and as long as he keeps his room tidy, his mum is happy. Jim has brought us an awesome game to play. You can play along with Jim now!

This week we have a special item, an original downloadable story. You can print it off and read it, or you can snuggle up and ask some-one else to read it, you could even ask Granny or grandpa, or an aunty or uncle, to read it over the internet to you and a group of friends or cousins, create your own story space.

This wonderful idea has come from actor, writer and theater director Iain Armstrong. Its brand new and created just for you. Let Iain know how much you liked it and he may just write more…

Zippedy Feelgood!

It’s now time for our feelgood tip of the day!

Do you ever get that anxious feeling, when you feel all worried or confused and messy inside your head? You might get it when something big is happening (or about to happen), like if there’s a big test at school, or if you’ve had a falling out with a friend. Or maybe you sometimes get this scary feeling out of nowhere! This is absolutely normal, and nothing to be scared of, everybody feels anxious sometimes, even us boffins!

There are ways to help yourself calm down and feel better! Here is a zippedy quickety exercise that you can do anytime, anywhere. All you need to do is focus on your breathing.

  1. As you take a deep breath in through your nose, count four “elephants” in your head i.e. “one elephant, two elephants, three elephants, four elephants”.
  2. Now hold your breath in for five elephants. “One elephant, two elephants, three elephants, four elephants, five elephants.”
  3. Finally, breath out steadily through your mouth for six elephants. “One elephant, two elephants, three elephants, four elephants, five elephants, six elephants.”
  4. Repeat this over and over for a few minutes. Just focus on the elephants, try not to think about anything else. You should soon start to feel calmer. Remember this exercise as it is a useful way to help yourself feel better!

Now its time to zip back to Selkie The Sea Witch…

This seafaring voyage is fair zipping along, there is so much to see, in the sea. We have met fish, pirates, witches and heard tales from the deep, told jokes, played games and baked. If you want to catch up with any activities, zipzoom those clickedy fingers back to Magic Monday or Wacky Wednesday. Have your own zooming scavenger hunt and challenge your pals to discover your treasure list in super quick time. Let us know what zany items you asked them to find, we always love to hear from you too.

See you on Magic Monday, when we have the Mad Hatter in the Lab, look out there could be a tea party.
